Holly Robinson Peete is a Beautiful Humanitarian
Filed under: Weekly Inspiration Anyone who recalls the days when she was down on '21 Jump Street,' solving minor youth-based crimes with the likes of Johnny Depp and Richard Grieco (whatever happened to that guy?) will remember one thing about Holly Robinson Peete. Her timeless beauty. Even back when she was playing a slightly gawky teenager, Peete had glowing skin, a slender physique, and oddles and oodles of gorgeous curly hair. And decades later, not much has changed.Peete got off 'Jump Street' eons ago and moved on to a career as an auth ....

'So Strong': The Return of Jonathan Butler
Filed under: Black Music Month A long way from Capetown, where he was born and raised before becoming an international superstar and spending nearly 20 years in England, Grammy-nominated singer-songwriter-guitarist-producer Jonathan Butler is back and stronger than ever with his latest release on Mack Avenue Records, 'So Strong.' From his days growing up under the abhorrent system of apartheid and rising to fame in what could be described as a fairytale, Butler has been through it all, and he is still standing tall with a message of love and ....

A Long Convo with Charlie Murphy
Filed under: Around the WebFrom Vibe: From the outside looking in it would appear that after over 20 years in the business Charlie Murphy finally has it all. Probably best known from his work on The Chappelle Show, (and especially his hilarious recollections of 80s run-ins with Rick James and Prince in the skits, 'Charlie Murphy's True Hollywood Stories,') the 50-year old's career is definitely percolating. Murphy is perfecting a new standup act that has him booked on the road through 2011; he has an autobiography, The Making of a Standup Guy, ....

Dr. Boyce and Lady Drama Discuss Wendy Williams, Hip Hop and More
Filed under: Celebrity News, Dr. Boyce Money I have a great deal of respect for Lady Drama, aka Ebony Garris. Lady Drama, in case you don't know, was the person who ran Bossip.com for quite a while. She's the celebrity gossip queen of the Internet and probably the next Wendy Williams. Not only does Lady Drama have the scoop on what the celebs are up to, she also has the scoop on making it in the entertainment business. The entertainment business may seem to be a place of glamour and excitement. But it can also be a place of bad contracts, ban ....

Catching Up With 'Me and Mrs. Jones' Soul Singer Billy Paul
Filed under: Black Music Month In 1972, soul legend Billy Paul hit the jackpot with his number-one single, 'Me and Mrs. Jones,' which earned him a Grammy award. Already known for his taste of music which ranged from jazz to R&B to ballads, his follow up song would be the controversial tune, 'Am I Black Enough For You.' The song wasn't played on radio and quickly Paul was back to searching for stardom again. Although he had a hit with the single 'War of the Gods,' the crossover appeal wasn't as good as 'Mrs. Jones.' Playing at BAMcinemaFEST ....

Solange's New 'Do
Solange Knowles may have tired of the super-short crop of curls she's been sporting for nearly a year. The 'T.O.N.Y.' singer has been seen out and about recently, with a big mane of curly-kinky hair. Seh also posted a few photos of herself sporting the new look on her website, mydamnblog.com. The photos were taken while Solange recorded her third album in Santa Barbara, Calif. and show off what looks like two different natural looks. Earlier blog posts feature a tightly curled 'do with more definition while the most recent pics show off a p ....

Report: Henry Louis Gates Case Was Not About Racial Profiling
A recent report to be published Thursday in the Boston Globe is set to show that the Cambridge Police Department does not use racial profiling, as it was accused of doing during the controversial case last summer involving Harvard Professor Henry Louis Gates. The report, compiled by the New England Center of Investigative Reporting, analyzed 392 disorderly conduct arrests between 2004 and 2009. During that time, 57 percent of those arrested were white, and 34 percent were black. These numbers almost directly mirror the percentages in the co ....
